Most caddisflies reside in cool running water but many are also found in warm flowing or still waters.
Caddisfly larvae occupy a wide variety of habitats and have a wide variety of feeding mechanisms.
Some highly specialized larvae capture food with nets constructed of silk.
Caddisflies may construct and reside in cases made of silk, sand, or leaf fragments during their changes in life stage.
