Black bullhead Colorado Division of Wildlife Photo

+ The black bullhead historically occurred east of the Continental Divide from southern Canada to Texas.

+ Its native range in Colorado is thought to include warm-water reaches of most eastern plains streams; the species has been introduced elsewhere.

+ The black bullhead is a habitat generalist and can be found in small- to large-sized streams and in ponds and reservoirs.

+ This catfish has an acute sense of smell that aids in feeding on invertebrates and fish in turbid or dark environments.

+ Maximum Length: 8-15 inches (20-38 cm).
