The humpback chub is a species of the minnow family found only in the Colorado River basin, occurring
primarily in canyonbound segments of larger rivers.
The largest concentration of humpback chubs
in Colorado exists in the Black Rocks area of the Colorado River downstream of Grand Junction.
The humpback chub has several distinctive features including a prominent rounded hump behind
its head, large fins, small eyes, and a fleshy snout that overhangs its mouth.
Maximum length: 14-18 inches.
