Originally found in the west coast lakes of North America, Kokanee are a landlocked form of the
larger migratory sockeye salmon.
Kokanee are often eaten by larger fish. They eat plankton.
Unable to spawn successfully in Colorado, populations are maintained by hatchery stocking.
At the end of their third summer, females develop a red-gray-white pattern and males develop a hook jaw and turn brick red.
Maximum length: 8-15 inches
