Roundtail chub, Gila robusta

A close relative of the humpback chub and bonytail, the roundtail chub is being reviewed for listing as a federally threatened or endangered species.

The species is restricted to the Colorado River basin and parts of northwestern Mexico.

It is found in warm streams and larger rivers, usually in habitats with slow-flowing water adjacent to areas of faster water.

In the Upper Colorado River basin, roundtail chubs are often caught by anglers using live bait or artificial lures and may be misidentified as Colorado Squawfish.

Maximum Length: 14-20 inches (35-50 cm).
