Speckled dace, Rhinichthys osculus


A bottom-dwelling species inhabiting areas with relatively swift flows, this small minnow occurs in many isolated drainages of western North America.

In Colorado, the speckled dace is found only in the Colorado River drainage.

Throughout its range, the speckled dace exhibits a wide variety of morphological and color variations, and the species in represented by several subspecies.

Speckled dace are most abundant in small-to medium-sized streams and rivers.

Maximum Length: 4-5" (10-13 cm).
