White sucker, Catostomus commersoni

The white sucker is native to the eastern slope of Colorado and has been introduced into waters of the western slope, where it can hybridize with native suckers.

It is one of the most abundant fishes in Colorado, found in lakes and rivers, and tolerant of a wide variety of habitat conditions.

Accidental release of white suckers into mountain lakes and streams has negatively impacted trout populations.

Anglers do catch white suckers; the flesh is white, flaky, and can be quite tasty.

Maximum Length: 23-30 inches (51-76 cm).
